Description	On Saturday, November 1st, join Lydia Brown for her presentation, �The Ableism Crisis: Violence, Marginality, and Disability Justice.� The event is hosted by the Society for Students With A Disability at the University of Victoria. It will begin at 10:00 AM in Room A105 of the Harry Hickman Building. Complimentary refreshments (coffee, tea, cookies) will be provided from 9:30 AM. Opening remarks by Dr. James Tanaka and Joseph Z. Sheppard. Lydia is an activist and writer focused on violence against multiply-marginalized disabled people, such as LGBTQ+, poor, undocumented, and people of color groups within the disability community. Lydia has diverse experiences with legislative advocacy for disability rights, disability and public policy, critical disability theory, and radical disability justice organizing. She is president and co-founder of the Washington Metro Disabled Students Collective, and serves on the board of the Autism Women's Network and TASH New England. A project assistant for the Autistic Self Advocacy Network's policy center in Washington, DC, Lydia was the 2012 Patricia Morrissey Disability Policy Fellow at the Institute for Educational Leadership and in 2013, Lydia was honored by the White House as a Champion of Change for disability rights. This event is free and open to the public! The Society For Students with a Disability (SSD) is a subsidiary organization under the auspices of the University of Victoria Students� Society (UVSS). We represent the interest of a wide range of students on the University campus who self-identify as having one or more disabilities. We aim to create spaces that are welcoming, and inclusive where students can relax, socialize, and share their experiences.
