Performing the Text - Brock University

Saturday, January 14 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

« Writing a Statement of Teaching Philosophy
Documenting Your Teaching »

Performing the text will help you learn strategies to relax and prepare your mind and body for a presentation, connect your voice with gestures, hook your audience with a compelling ‘opener’ and rehearse techniques to minimize performance anxiety.

Graduate students looking to enhance their presentation skills or planning to participate in any knowledge translation communication challenge are invited (the 3MT® competition, SSHRC Storytellers or Science, Action!).

For information, contact Karin Perry, Graduate Coordinator, Development & Training (Faculty of Graduate Studies)

Facilitator: Julia Course, actor and graduate of Brock University.

Awarded a SSHRC grant in 2006, she continued her studies at The School of English and Theatre Studies at the University of Guelph. Under the supervision of renowned playwright Judith Thompson. Course completed her M.A. in dramatic literature and theory. Course is also a graduate of the acting program at the National Theatre School of Canada, and has been an ensemble member of the acting company at the Shaw Festival in Niagara on the Lake since 2010. As a professional actor with a background in academia, Julia is passionate about the “storytelling” of research – how students can borrow from the toolbox of an actor to captivate an audience.
