Faculty Awareness and Training in the Post-Secondary Community: An Annotated Bibliography

"Pour mieux comprendre l'étudiant"

The "service d'accueil aux étudiants handicapés du Cégep de Sainte-Foy" has created and made available to the entire cégep community a host of relevant and helpful documents. All teachers and students have access to this information. As a result, there is no specialized awareness-raising geared towards teachers but rather the approach taken is to keep everyone informed.

In addition, Cégep de Sainte-Foy is the centralised service provider for students with disabilities enrolled in all colleges in the region. As a centralised location, Cégep de Sainte-Foy must have all pertinent information regarding students with disabilities at its disposal so that it may provide information and assistance to service providers in the other schools in that region as well.

The documents currently available at Cégep de Sainte-Foy are booklets or pamphlets of approximately ten pages in length each. These typically cover one type of impairment at a time and provide information regarding the impairment, students with disabilities in the classroom, services that are available, grading protocol, and ways to facilitate communication.

Some documents that are available include:

• A series of brochures "Pour mieux comprendre l'étudiant" to do with students with hearings impairments, mobility impairments, visual impairments, as well as students who have had cranial traumas or who are epileptic or dyslexic.
• A series of pamphlets regarding adaptations to be made for students with hearing impairments.
• A series of guides regarding the services offered to students.
• A guide assisting the student or assistant in filling out the "plan individuel d'intervention" forms.
