Lauren Sherwood

Lauren Sherwood was born in Vancouver, British Columbia with a profound hearing loss in both ears. When she was nine her family moved to Osoyoos in the Okanagan Valley. Throughout her public school years she received a variety of assistance in dealing with her hearing loss. In Grade 12, she represented Osoyoos as its Ambassador at numerous events throughout B.C. In 2007, she started university at Mount Allison in New Brunswick but, owing to a lack of resources for hard of hearing students, she was unable to complete her studies. She took a couple of years off to work and to travel independently through Europe. In 2011, she returned to school, this time at the University of Victoria where she was provided substantial support for her hearing loss. She is now in third year, completing a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Geography and a minor in Professional Writing. This summer she completed her first Geography Co-op job in Fairmont Hot Springs, B.C.
