Enhancing Accessibility in Post-Secondary Education Institutions

Convocation Resources

The resources below are best practice examples of how PSE institutions manage accommodation for students with disabilities during the convocation ceremony.

College/University Resources

  • At the University of Northern British Columbia students with disabilities or persons with disabilities who are a member of a graduating student’s family are asked to contact the Convocation Centre within the Registrar’s Office if access or accommodations provisions are required: http://www.unbc.ca/registrar/contact.html
  • University of Toronto directs students with disabilities and others needing accommodations for convocation to contact the Office of Convocation by email or telephone. They also provide limited accessible seating and other disability-related accommodations for guests of students: http://www.convocation.utoronto.ca/faq.htm
  • Niagara College has facilities to accommodate individuals with special needs or disabilities. They direct guests requiring special assistance during Convocation to contact the Registrar's Office and provide a timeline. They also mention that parking is available for those requiring special assistance because of a disability: http://www.niagaracollege.ca/convocation/
