Enhancing Accessibility in Post-Secondary Education Institutions

Training for High-School Educators Resources

The resources below are examples that may be helpful in providing training and assistance to secondary school educators on how to help high school students with disabilities transition to PSE.

College/University Resources

  • TAP into UVic is a transition program offered by the University of Victoria. The program is designed for educators and aims to increase awareness of the opportunities for students with disabilities at post-secondary education. It also provides information on the processes as well as a solid foundation for collaboration. A similar program is also available for students with a learning disability and/or ADHD. http://rcsd.uvic.ca/services/tap/

External Resources

  • Alberta Learning Information Service has developed a Transition Planning Guide and PowerPoint Presentation for Grade 9 to 12 students and their parents. They encourage educators to review all three sections and use the PowerPoint Presentation to assist both parents and students with the transition from secondary to post-secondary school. The PowerPoint Presentation includes speaking notes for presenters. http://alis.alberta.ca/pdf/disabilities/transguidedisabilityparentstudent_English.pdf
