Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD)

This organization, founded in 1976, is Canada’s largest group for people with disabilities. The CCD aims to ensure people with disabilities have the same rights as everyone, in basic needs, employment and education. The Council’s membership includes consumer groups at the national and provincial levels. NEADS is a member group of CCD and has a seat at its council table. Many of its provincial member groups are profiled in this guide. The CCD’s advocacy projects have made the concerns of people with disabilities known both at home and across the globe. The organization has achieved success protecting disability rights in the Charter and the Canadian Human Rights Act, and provides interventions for people with disabilities in key court cases focusing on accommodation and privacy.
