Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB)
The Canadian National Institute for the Blind believes that visually
impaired and blind people can be integrated as part of the mainstream
community, and as such, aims to help those with visual impairments
to lead full lives. Through its many divisions and local offices across
Canada, the CNIB advocates for improved conditions for blind persons
in this country, helps in the prevention of blindness, and promotes sightenhancement
services. The CNIB runs a National Employment Program.
The institute has successfully worked to improve the legal rights of visually
impaired and blind Canadians since its inception in 1918.
Today, the organization serves more than 90,000 Canadians and has
an expressed commitment toward greater communication with young
Canadians concerning the services they offer.
