More about Michelle Hewitt

Michelle Hewitt is co-chair of Disability Without Poverty, and a disabled woman living in Kelowna, BC. Michelle is a PhD student at University of British Columbia - Okanagan (UBC-O) where her research questions why we have a value system that allows younger disabled Canadians to have no option other than to live in long-term care facilities. Given the severity of her own disability, Michelle does this work from her bed with the company of her Bernese Mountain dog.

More about Disability Without Poverty

Disability Without Poverty is a movement led by people with disabilities and supported by their families, friends, and allies that empowers people with disabilities to realize their power, pursue their passions, and participate in all aspects of society. Their primary objective is to get the Canada Disability Benefit fast-tracked, with the active and genuine involvement of disabled people every step of the way. The organization rests on three main actions: a united disability movement, the support of all Canadians, and collaboration with all levels of government.
