University of Victoria Mental Health Awareness Week 2017

The week of January 16th-20th is UVic's first annual Mental Health Awareness Week! Throughout the week, a number of campus groups will be hosting free events centered around mental health and wellness and reducing stigma on campus.

This is UVic’s 3rd Annual Mental Health Awareness Event.

There will be a special event with a Keynote from Kevin Breel, Comedian on Wednesday, January 18th, 2017, Bob Wright Centre room B150.

Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to join in the discussion on mental health at UVic's 3rd Annual Mental Health Awareness Event hosted by the Office of Student Life in partnership with the UVSS.

This free event features keynote speaker Kevin Breel, a comedian and mental health activist with over 4 million views on his viral TED talk; a community update on the various mental health initiatives happening on campus; and a special student story-telling performance. Complementary refreshments will be provided at a pre-event reception featuring information booths from various campus and community organizations at 4:00pm in the Bob Wright Center lobby.

Speaker Bio: Kevin Breel is a 22-year-old comedian, writer and mental health activist who grew up in Victoria BC. As a stand-up comic, Kevin became one of the youngest feature acts in Canadian history, performing at venues like the Colosseum in Vegas to House of Blues and Rogers Arena. His work as a mental health activist began with his passionate TED talk “Confessions of a Depressed Comic,” which has garnered over 4,000,000 views. Kevin is a national ambassador for the Bell LET’S TALK Campaign and his work has been featured by The Huffington Post, MTV, CNN, NBC, and The Wall Street Journal. Bringing a personality full of warmth, humour and unparalleled honesty and channeling it in to topics people tend not to talk about, Kevin has become an in demand guest speaker at colleges and universities all over North America.
