The Society for Students with a Disability (SSD) is an advocacy group, part of the Students' Society (UVSS). We are led by self-identified students with disabilities. Our purposes, as set forth in the SSD Constitution and Bylaws, are to:

Advocating for the full and equal participation of students with disabilities in all aspects of the University of Victoria community.
Raising awareness of the barriers and challenges faced by students with disabilities and make recommendations to the UVic community on coming up with ways to remove these barriers.
Actively collaborating with all stakeholders of the UVic community to further the interests of students with disabilities.
Working to prevent, expose, and eliminate institutional discrimination that many students with disabilities face.
Working to create anti-oppressive spaces where students with disabilities can relax, socialize, and share their experiences.

Our vision is to see a UVic campus in which all students, regardless of disability, freely access all spaces and are included in the community. When spaces and communities are not accessible and inclusive, we believe they are broken.

To achieve this, we advocate for students with disabilities and raise awareness of barriers. We seek to develop collaborative relationships with other organizations and stakeholders in the university community in order to implement programs to support students' accessibility needs.

Furthermore, we strive to engage UVic students with disabilities in the SSD and to ensure that students are aware of the resources and supports available in our campus community.

Finally, we strive to develop an inclusive and safe community at SSD. We hope to make the SSD the focus of a supportive peer community on campus.
