Know Your Rights - Carleton Disability Awareness Centre (CDAC)

Supporting and assisting workers with disabilities is an important and pressing issue in modern workplaces. But people with disabilities still regularly face barriers, stigma and stereotypes in the workplace and often face more questions than answers when they try to work with employers to address their concerns. In this workshop (Feb. 13th), Morgan Rowe, a local labour/employment lawyer and disability rights author, will be discussing human rights law, worker’s rights and how these two sets of rights can be used together to help individuals with disabilities challenge barriers in employment. In addition to providing a primer on disability and workers’ rights law, Morgan will discuss practical tips for raising disability rights concerns in the workplace and making sure those concerns are successfully addressed.

This event will be held in the CDAC office from 2:30 to 5:30.

About CDAC
The Carleton Disability Awareness Center (CDAC) provides the Carleton community with social supports regarding disability and accessibility. CDAC is designed to act as a forum for disability issues and to provide advocacy and events. The CDAC staff aims to foster social opportunities and to involve the CUSA membership in disability education and inclusion. They endeavour to challenge the stereotypes about disability and assist in the removal of barriers to every aspect of university life. CDAC achieves this through a wide range of programming for students that are both fun and informative.

Since its founding in 1988, CDAC has become one of the leading disability awareness centers in the country and has been at the forefront of advocacy at the student level. Whether it be in policy through the Association of Ontarians with Disabilities Act, or our Disability Awareness Weeks, we have always been proud of our ability to promote effective change within the Carleton community.
