Mental Health on Campus Engagement Event at Ryerson University on May 24th to inform a new Standard for Psychological Health and Safety of Post-Secondary Students

Dear Community Member,

The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC), in collaboration with key partners and funders, invites you to a Substance Use and Mental Health on Campus Engagement Event to inform a new Standard for Psychological Health and Safety for Post-Secondary Students (PSS Standard).

Many post-secondary students experience concurrent issues of mental health and substance use. This breakfast event will be an opportunity to bring together diverse perspectives to contribute to a thoughtful dialogue about the intersection of mental health on campus and substance use and addiction (best practices, challenges, priorities, etc.) to inform the PSS Standard: https://www.mentalhealthcommission.ca/English/what-we-do/children-and-youth/students-standard

Date: Friday, May 24, 2019 Time: 8:00AM – 11:00AM Location: Ryerson University, International Living Learning Centre, International Room, 240 Jarvis Street, Toronto, Ontario
Breakfast and refreshments will be provided.

Please note that this will be an English event. For those located outside of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and unable to attend in-person, a live-stream virtual participation option will be available. Please click this link https://onlinesurvey.mentalhealthcommission.ca/s3/substanceuseandmentalhealth to express your interest in attending this event in person at Ryerson or to express your interest in live streaming the event by Wednesday, May 1. Limited funds are available to subsidize participation, including travel and accommodations.

About the PSS Standard This new voluntary Standard will build on existing mental health strategies, frameworks and promising practices to create a consistent evidence-informed approach to student mental health and to aid post-secondary institutions to support student mental health and wellness and encourage #studentsuccess. One of the key objectives of the Standard is that it reflects the diversity in Canada, and that it includes a variety of perspectives from a cross section of people and organizations.

Please note a limited number of seats are available. Participants will be confirmed using selection criteria that ensures a diverse representation of people and organizations with a specific substance use and addictions lens who have the interest and expertise in supporting post-secondary student mental health.

We hope you will join us for a meaningful dialogue.
Thank you,
