This 23-page guide opens by discussing Niagara College's philosophy of accommodation. The author discusses admission requirements, accommodations, myths of disability, and the services offered at the Centre for Students with Disabilities.

The largest section in the book focuses on suggestions to faculty for teaching students with disabilities. One or two pages are dedicated to explaining the needs of students with the following disabilities:

  • Learning Disabilities.
  • Visual Disabilities.
  • Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
  • Psychiatric Disabilities.
  • Speech Impairments.
  • Physical Disabilities including:

    AIDS
    Back Injury
    Cancer
    Cerebral Palsy
    Closed Head Injury
    Multiple Sclerosis
    Muscular Dystrophy
    Repetitive Strain Syndrome
    Respiratory Problems

The content of these pages provides answers to the following questions:

  • What preparation should be made early in the semester and during the semester for the student with a disability?
  • How should examinations and evaluations be administered?
  • How should mobility issues be handled on and off campus?
  • What teaching strategies are most effective when working with students who have disabilities?

The guide closes by discussing non-discriminatory language that is preferred by students with disabilities.

This safety pamphlet is a map of Niagara campus and all of its emergency exits. It explains the professor's responsibilities if there are disabled students in the classroom when an evacuation occurs.
