"The Realities of Disability"

Video

This 22 minute video speaks candidly about experiences faced by people with a disability. It is a very personal video that allows disabled persons the platform to speak out about their concerns. The production discusses the accommodation of persons with visual and non-visual disabilities. Short dramatizations of actual situations and events are recreated. It is a valuable tool for government agencies, community groups and employers. "The Realities of Disability" was produced in partnership with the School of Continuing Education, Memorial University of Newfoundland and funded by Human Resources Development Canada through the Employability and Social Partnerships Program.

This video is accessible for people with hearing impairments as it uses open captioning.

"Inclusive Post-Secondary Education: Meeting the Needs of Adult Learners with Disabilities"

Information Package

This package contains information on how to best understand and accommodate the diverse needs of the disabled community. It consists of two booklets: "Multiplying the Options: Facts about Disabilities and Implications for Educators in Post-Secondary and Educational Institutions" (1999) and "Multiplying the Options: A Tool to Determine the Accessibility of Post-Secondary Educational Institutions to Students with Disabilities" (1999). The two booklets are extremely useful resources, concise and well formatted. The first booklet describes particular disabilities and their implications for the educator. The second booklet provides a checklist of accommodations to gauge the accessibility of the classroom and the teaching style of the educator. Several information sheets, a computer disk and a list of further resources, are included in the package. The booklets were created through a collaboration of advisors, educators, parents and students.

The Council of Canadians with Disabilities and Human Resources Development Canada funded the project.
