Faculty Awareness and Training in the Post-Secondary Community: An Annotated Bibliography

Sherbrooke, Quebec

Trois grands principes à retenir

A guide for integration and accommodation of students with disabilities

The Université de Sherbrooke has developed two guides - one for students and one for professors - regarding ways to accommodate students with disabilities. They are geared toward raising awareness of disability issues in the university community.

The guide provides professors with many useful and practical hints about adaptations in the classroom for students with hearing, visual and mobility impairments. The responsibilities of both student and instructor are outlined, and university policies governing the responsibilities of everyone with respect to adaptations for students with disabilities are discussed.

The guides are designed to promote three general notions: Equal opportunity without discrimination; acceptance of integration as an autonomous process for the individual; and the role of the "Services aux étudiants handicapés" as a support base for student accommodation. The student and faculty guides are roughly a dozen pages in length each and are written in a simple, non-discriminatory language.
