Job Search Strategies Forum - Part 1Workin’ Your Job Search. You have a disability. Your job search does notAt the end of “Workin’ Your Job Search”, participants will understand the principles and application of a well-defined job search, no matter what disability they have. This session will explore the "Plan My Career" Model that is used at the University of Saskatchewan in its Career Services Centre. The presentation will introduce to a 10 step program known as the Job Search Intervention. Throughout this interactive session, participants will be able to take the resources and content of the presentation, and introduce any or all of these concepts into engaging people with disabilities in their own job search. Speakers | Shari Thompson | Demystifying Disclosure and Job AccommodationThe first part of this presentation will address disclosure. Delegates will learn the importance of understanding the job being advertised and the job description. If, when, and how to disclose a disability to a potential employer will be discussed in detail. Also included will be the significance of using positive language when communicating to an employer about a disability. The second part will cover job accommodations including: the different types of questions asked regarding accommodation by an employer during an interview, how to address those questions, and how to overcome barriers. Speakers | Randy Bolton | Heather Korol | Transitioning Successfully from Academics into the Business WorldFaisel will share his personal experiences that have helped him to succeed in his studies and career. These experiences have led Faisel to a rewarding career at BMO Financial Group where he is currently a Senior Manager. Faisel will address some of the skills crucial to success in transitioning from academia into the business world. These interactions span across multiple dimensions including being a student, job searching, working on your first job, and being a manager with disabilities. This presentation will help job candidates prepare for a successful career path. Speakers | Faisel Saeed | The GE Scholar-Leaders Program & Other Networking OpportunitiesNetworking is a common phrase in schools and businesses today. But what does it really mean? How can students separate themselves from the countless other candidates looking for a job, internship or co-op placement? During this session Blair, a current student at McMaster University, will share his experiences in building a network and securing employment.
