University of Victoria Graduate Student Orientation

If you're a graduate student new to UVic or new to graduate studies, be sure to participate in our Graduate Student Orientation program. Attend sessions on research methods, scholarship applications and career opportunities while connecting with staff, faculty and students.
◾Discuss topics critical to graduate-student success
◾Network with new and current graduate students
◾Learn about key campus locations and resources


Graduate Student Orientation runs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Start time Activity

9:00 a.m. Check-in or register at the University Centre. Late check-in and registration will continue after 10:00 a.m. at the info tent beside Petch Fountain in the Quad.
9:20 a.m. Welcome ceremony and presentation in Farquhar Auditorium
10:30 a.m. Conference style workshops
12:00 p.m. Barbeque lunch and information fair
1:15 p.m. Conference style workshops
2:45 p.m. Graduate-specific campus tours (optional)
4:00 p.m. Afternoon social


You can select up to four workshops when you register.

◾Getting to know the UVic library as a researcher
◾Graduate student teaching 101
◾Let's Get Mobilized: How does engaging with your Union bolster your Grad Student Experience

◾Not in the syllabus: Practical strategies for student success
◾Tri-council scholarships: SSHRC, CIHR, NSERC
