Seeking nomination for NEADS Ethics Officer

The National Educational Association of Disabled Students is currently seeking nominations for the position of Ethics Officer. The position is a volunteer position which will commence April, 2010 for a three year term. The Ethics Officer will report directly to the Board of Directors of NEADS. Nominations for the position will be accepted until February 22, 2010 at 5:00 PM EST.

Job Description

General

To implement and serve as a central resource concerning our ethical standards and the Code of Conduct, the board has created the position of the NEADS ethics officer. The ethics officer reports directly to the NEADS board of directors.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of the Code of Conduct, including its dissemination, amendment, and interpretation, as well as training concerning its contents and implications
  • Serve as a source of guidance regarding ethics and Code of Conduct issues
  • Serve as a central and confidential place to report potential and actual breaches of the Code of Conduct
  • Investigate or assign a matter for investigation and report the results to the NEADS Board of Directors
  • Enforce the NEADS Code of Conduct
  • Serve as a catalyst to communicate the Code of Conduct to NEADS employees and volunteers as well as to other relevant parties
  • Coordinate with the board, employees and project managers of the NEADS to ensure the integration and implementation of the standards embedded within the Code throughout all aspects of the NEADS’s activities
  • Educate appropriate individuals as to NEADS ethics-related policies and procedures
  • Other related duties may be required

Qualifications

  • A minimum of several years of work experience surrounding ethics is required
  • Minimum of a three year degree program with a concentration area surrounding ethics, law or related courses
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in dealing with and knowledge of the NEADS organization is a asset
  • Bilingualism is an asset
