DetailsThe Access Centre-Able York is a student-run alternative to disability services that offers York students and staff a space in which to consider the various dimensions of the disability experience. The organization has two components: Access Centre and Able York in which the latter is housed within the former. The Access Centre runs the administrative part which includes information about campus disability policies and resources, funding assistance, accommodations, and an adaptive technology lab. The second part, Able York, is a working group that tries to examine all the different perspectives of how disability affects our lives, which includes socio-political, universal design, rehabilitation, medicine, bioethics, art and culture, and disability studies. Both parts work together in tandem to organize presentations, conferences, creative workshops, peer support, and advocacy. The Access Centre-Able York is a drop-in space to use as a resting point: and escape from normalcy.
