The National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS) will be holding its 2010 Conference entitled “Learning Today – Leading Tomorrow” at the Delta Hotel in Winnipeg, Manitoba from November 12-14, 2010. Twelve previous bi-annual, national conferences have been well attended and we anticipate this event to continue in that tradition. Our bilingual conferences usually attract about 200 delegates from across the country. Because of the scope of this year’s event, we expect to surpass past attendance records.
Founded in 1986, NEADS is a consumer-driven, cross-disability organization with a mandate to encourage the self-empowerment of students and graduates with disabilities so that we may gain equal access to a successful and fulfilling post-secondary education and career. This gives the association a diverse membership that includes: college and university students with disabilities, employers, service providers, post-secondary institutions, and non-governmental organizations.
The theme for this year's conference addresses issues and solutions in the areas of education, employment, and accessibility for students / graduates with disabilities. The theme provides a vehicle through which an agenda for the 21st century can be set forth. The conference will function on a single-track format, with delegates exploring subject areas in dynamic, interactive workshops and plenary sessions.
Your sponsorship of this event will help empower participants with the tools, contacts, and information necessary for them to become effective leaders in their communities in the areas of access to higher education and to the labour force. Specifically, your support will assist us with: delegate packages in alternative media (Braille, CD, large print, and tape); simultaneous bilingual translation and sign language interpretation of conference workshops; the conference banquet and health breaks; and a variety of specialized services for delegates with disabilities.
Your sponsorship will also go towards supporting a Student Subsidy Program, providing travel to Winnipeg, hotel accommodation, and conference registration fees for up to ten students with disabilities who study in smaller, generally under-represented communities/schools across Canada.
We look forward to having your organization/company as a partner for this exciting event!
