WEBINAR:Inclusion, Disability Disclosure & Accommodations: Employers' Perspectives

April 25th, 2019: Date and Time

Thu, 25 April 2019

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM EDT

In this webinar, Dr. Sally Lindsay, Senior Scientist at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and Elaine Cagliostro, Research Coordinator at Holland Bloorview, will share findings from their descriptive qualitative study. This study involved conducting in-depth interviews with a purposive sample of 18 employers who hire young people with disabilities. Thematic analysis explored issues related to disclosure, accommodations, and inclusion.

Webinar Objectives:

1. To understand employer accommodation practices with youth with disabilities (i.e., as they currently exist and what employers need help with)

2. To understand how employers create an inclusive environment

Background

Little is known about employers’ experiences of providing accommodations to youth with disabilities. Most research has focused on employers' attitudes towards hiring people with disabilities and not their actual practices of hiring and including people with disabilities.

Developing an understanding of disclosure and accommodations experiences can help young workers to succeed in finding and maintaining employment, especially at this critical early stage of their careers.

Webinar details will be sent out closer to the webinar date.
This webinar is the second in our series on inclusive employment for youth and young adults with disabilities.
