Latest State of the Schools Report Now Live!
February 9th, 2022
Algonquin Anishanaabeg Territory/ Ottawa, Ontario
The National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS) is proud to release our latest State of the Schools Report: "Report on Canadian Post-secondary Institutions and COVID-19 Response: Safe Return to Campus and Management of Attendant Service Programs." This issue focuses on attendant services programs (ASPs), COVID-19 campus safety measures, and student advocacy initiatives.
State of the Schools is a quarterly publication examining accessibility and accommodations in post-secondary institutions across Canada, and is a feature of our Virtual Access for All project, funded by Employment and Social Development Canada. NEADS' Virtual Access for All project further consists of webinars, mentorship opportunities, and financial support for Canadian post-secondary students with disabilities.
"The new reality faced by post-secondary students with accessibility needs is monumentally challenging for many -- however, it also provides an extraordinary opportunity for much-needed change. The radical shift we have seen in Canada over the past few months with regard to how we as a society operate, has left many who rely on consistency and flexibility -- such as students with disabilities -- in the lurch. As a graduate student with a disability, the pandemic has both brought challenges along with new opportunities for learning and growth. It is my hope that these quarterly reports will offer students advice and strategies on how to successfully transition into post-secondary during these changing times." - Elizabeth Mohler, NEADS Research Consultant
