The Canadian Disability Studies Association-Association canadienne d’études sur le handicap (CDSA-ACÉH) invites proposals for presentations at the 17th annual national conference, which will be held at Western University in London, Ontario from May 30 – June 1, 2020.
CDSA-ACE?H welcomes presentations, panels, workshops, posters, performances, and artistic contributions related to the 2020 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences theme: Bridging Divides: Confronting Colonialism and Anti-Black Racism.
Submissions from scholars, activists, community members and students are welcome!

What is Congress
The CDSA-ACÉH annual conference takes place in conjunction with the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences (i.e. Congress) – an annual week-long gathering of scholars, students, researchers, policy-makers, and others hosted by a different Canadian university each year at the end of May and beginning of June.
Congress is organized by the Federation of the Humanities and Social Sciences, which has approximately 70 member associations representing different academic disciplines. Like CDSA-ACÉH, each of these associations also holds their annual conference during Congress. it is important to note that while CDSA-ACÉH conference attendees are more than welcome to partake in other Congress activities and events, our conference is self-contained and takes place over two days only.
What is Disability Studies?
As explained by Dan Goodley (2011), “Critical disability studies start with disability but never end with it: disability is the space from which to think through a host of political, theoretical and practical issues that are relevant to all” (p.157). Disability Studies, often referred to as “Critical Disability Studies” is also an umbrella term that encompasses more focused related disciplines, such as Mad Studies, Deaf Studies, and Critical Autism Studies, among others. These fields share a common concern with social justice.
