National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS) seeks applications for Directors due March 9, 2020

The National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS) is opening applications for seats on its 2020-2023 Board of Directors. NEADS is seeking students and recent graduates (persons that have graduated within the last five years) with disabilities enrolled in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island to fill current vacancies on its board. Though, any interested and enthusiastic students or recent graduates with relevant skill sets and a strong work ethic are encouraged to seek election. Prospective board members will be expected to attend a monthly teleconferences, each lasting up to 2 hour (twelve 12 minimum), as well as one to two in-person retreats per year, lasting approximately a weekend. Board members are expected to participate in committees and other organizational activities throughout their term. Correspondence of the Board is primarily done by email and telephone; prospective members would be expected to keep up-to-date with and respond to, all correspondence in a timely manner. Provincial/territorial Directors also have a responsibility to represent their Province/Territory, and serve to bring the work of NEADS to their jurisdiction. Board members may also have an opportunity to participate in local, regional and provincial committees and activities.

No prior participation in the disability or student movements is required to join the NEADS Board. Members who have strong skill sets in governance, fundraising, finance, social media and membership/partnership outreach are especially welcome. Although specific skill sets are not required, prior experience in Board governance will be a strong asset. Interest in, and experience with, establishing regional and national projects, programs; grant funding and financial management would also be an asset. A strong commitment to participate and engage with the volume of Board business is a must. you must have a willingness to learn and apply that learning while on the Board. The NEADS Board of Directors consists of ten provincial Directors: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and one territorial Director. Candidates for the positions of provincial/territorial Directors must be students or recent graduates with disabilities, residing in and/or attending a post-secondary institution in the geographic location they seek to represent.
